Legacy Way

Legacy Way is a 4.6km road tunnel that enables motorists to travel from the Western Freeway at Toowong to the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at Kelvin Grove in just four minutes.

With Legacy Way, motorists can:

  • Make travel time savings of around 14 minutes*, compared with Milton Road or Coronation Drive routes
  • Avoid seven sets of traffic lights
  • Avoid other possible delays such as major roundabouts and schools zones.

Legacy Way tunnel was named in honour of the men and women who have served in the Australian Defence Force and the families they left behind.  One cent for every toll collected will be donated to Legacy.

Brisbane City Council was responsible for the construction and opening of the tunnel. Once the tunnel was completes it became part of the go via network, operated and maintained by Transurban Queensland.

Tunnel safety

Legacy Way is one of Australia’s safest tunnels. This is because the tunnels feature a range of world class safety systems. Read more about the tunnel safety features.

We also constantly monitor the tunnel air quality internally and externally for the presence of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrous oxide (NO*), fine particles and visibility levels. View live air quality monitoring results.
